I'm Derek. I eat, sleep, and breathe design every single day. When I'm not at my day job, I'm typically working on a freelance project, either for a client, or just for my own enjoyment.

I'm a digital designer based in the DMV specializing in graphic and web design. I've worked for companies including government contractors, real estate agents, product manufacturers, education software companies, and more.

Unlike other design professionals, I have a background in graphic design in addition to political science. I obtained both BA degrees from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania. While my design background gives me insight in how to craft aesthetically elegant designs, my political science background has enhanced my writing and elevated my research and interpretation skills. Together they give me a well-rounded background to tackle any challenge. This has proved especially important living in the DMV.

I work in D.C. as a Multimedia Designer & Web Analyst contractor at the Administrative Office of the United States Courts. There, I create marketing, training and communications graphics, social media and website graphics, infographics, posters, e-newsletters, track and record data analytics, provide website testing, use HTML and CSS to update website content, and assist in administrative and marketing tasks as needed. Additionally, I create the training videos but creating outlines, scripts, storyboards, and constructing the videos, taking into account our different user audiences.

As a freelancer, I specialize in branding, logo design, website design, and digital marketing. As a designer, I value the importance of creating aesthetic and practical, innovative solutions. My natural design style could be described as minimalist with a pop of color, but like any good designer, I can adhere to different design styles depending on the client.
